PRESS RELEASE
The Detective Bureau of the Summit Police Department has announced additional hours during which Summit residents may come in to have their fingerprints taken. Fingerprints are required for a variety of reasons, including firearms applications, obtaining taxi, liquor and peddler’s licenses, security clearances for volunteer firefighters and special police, and are required in certain professions such as real estate or finance. Traditionally, fingerprinting has been done on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., but will now take place on Wednesday evenings, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., as well. No appointments are necessary. Chief Robert C. Lucid commented, “We in the Police Department, like the rest of the City departments, want to provide increased access to services for those who are unable to come into Headquarters during business hours.” Lt. Weck, Detective Bureau Commander, suggested that anyone needing their fingerprints taken should call before coming to headquarters, either the main number 908-273-0051 or the Detective Bureau number 908-277-9384, since there may be times when detectives are called out on an emergency basis, and therefore unable to do fingerprints.
