Q: What if I receive a bad check from someone?

A: Prior to reporting bad checks (insufficient funds) to the Summit Police Dept. the victim must first:
bulletSend a certified/registered letter to the suspect requesting payment.
bulletAfter (10) Ten days if the matter is not resolved a police report may be filed.
bulletBring a copy of the bad check (front and back)
bulletCopies of all letters sent or received, certification, etc.

 If the check came back as "Account Closed" the police report can be taken immediately.  There is no need for the ten day waiting period for the detective bureau to conduct a follow-up investigation.

 Q: One License Plate Missing

 A: An incident report will be made as a matter of record.  The victim must surrender the remaining license plate to the N.J.D.M.V and produce the surrender receipt to the desk officer.  When the surrender receipt is produced the desk officer will enter the license plate into the NCIC/SCIC computer.

Q: Can I park on the street overnight?

A: City Ordinance 7-8.6 states: No vehicle shall be parked on any street during any night of the year between the hours of 2:30 am and 5:00 am.

Q: Who removes snow from sidewalks?

A: The owner of each and every dwelling, store of other building or lot or lots of ground in the City of Summit, shall within twenty-four (24) hours form the end of every fall of snow, hail, or after the formation of ice upon the sidewalks, unless said ice shall have been covered with sand or gritty material, cause the same to be removed entirely from the paved sidewalk as follows: for a width of at least two (2) feet on a single family or two family residential lot, and a width of at least four (4) feet on all other lots.
