The values of the officers and members of the Summit Police Department can be expressed in three words:

Honor
Courage
Fidelity

We are a department of honorable people who respect the worth of all people, both in our organization and in the public we serve. We do the right thing. We have personal and professional integrity. We do not show partiality or preference for any particular group. We respect the law and we enforce the law within a democratic community.

We are a department that has courage. We have personal courage to go places and do things that may place us in jeopardy. We have courage to take action that may not always be popular but must be done. We accept that not everyone will applaud us or congratulate us but we have the courage to do what we are sworn to do. We have courage to protect the lives, the property, and the rights of those we serve.

We are a department that is faithful to our ideals, faithful to the public we serve and faithful to the highest standards of law enforcement. We show our fidelity by maintaining our professionalism in the face of trying circumstances. We are faithful to our oath of honor:

“I will never betray my badge, my integrity, my character, or the
public trust. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others
accountable for our actions. I will always uphold the constitution,
and community I serve.”

Mission Statement

"The mission of the Summit Police Department is to maintain order, preserve and protect the lives, peace and property of the citizens of Summit, and to enforce the laws within the framework of the United States Constitution.  The department and its individual members will, without favor or prejudice, work cooperatively with the public to provide a safe community and strive to enhance the quality of life for all citizens."

Chief Robert C. Lucid
